On top of that, you’ll get: – What FKK means
– The difference between “family naturism” and “swinger / lifestyle” vibes
– How to behave so you don’t get kicked out in 5 minutesBefore we go into the beach list, read this once so you don’t show up and embarrass yourself.
What “nude beach” really means
There are three main types of nude / naturist / clothing-optional beaches:
Official FKK or naturist beaches
These are normal in places like Germany, France, Spain, Croatia. The beach (or section of beach) is legally recognized as a place where nudity is allowed. You’ll often see signs that literally say FKK or “naturist zone.” Families go. Retired people go. Couples go. It’s not weird.Clothing-optional zones
This is common in the USA and Canada. It means “nudity is tolerated here.” Some people are naked, some topless, some still in swimsuits. Rangers or police usually leave people alone as long as everyone is respectful and not doing anything sexual in public.Adult / lifestyle friendly areas
A smaller number of places are 18+ and openly sexual, especially at night. Example: parts of Cap d’Agde (France) in summer, or certain adults-only resorts in Jamaica and Mexico where nudity and flirting are part of the whole point. These are for swingers, voyeurs, exhibitionists, and people who like erotic energy. Consent still matters. It’s not a free-for-all. Respect is mandatory. What is FKK?
FKK = “Freikörperkultur,” German for “Free Body Culture.”
It’s a European naturist culture focused on:
– Body freedom, skin in the sun, no shame
– Zero obsession with “perfect” bodies
– Respect and consent in group nudity
– No cameras, no creep behavior, no harassmentFKK is not automatically sexual. Most FKK beaches in Germany, France, Croatia, etc., are calm, social, and family-safe during the day. In fact, if you act horny and start staring, people will tell you to leave.
Basic nude beach etiquette (don’t skip this)
– Bring a towel and always sit on your towel. This is naturist hygiene 101.
– Do not stare. Quick glances are normal. Staring like a predator = you’re done.
– Never take photos of strangers. You can get in serious trouble for that.
– Keep it respectful. Public sex can get beaches shut down.
– Follow local rules. Sometimes only a slice of the beach is nude-friendly. Stay in that slice.
– Ask before approaching. If someone doesn’t engage, move on.Nudity is allowed. Creepy is not.
How to use the map above
The interactive map at the top of this guide shows a pin for each nude beach, naturist resort and clothing-optional zone. Open it, zoom to where you are, tap a pin, and open it directly in Google Maps for the GPS point.
Legal warning
Laws change. Local tolerance changes. Sometimes, a beach that was nude for 20 years suddenly gets patrolled more. Always double check local signs when you arrive. If police or rangers speak to you, be polite. Being rude is how areas get shut down for everybody.
Now let’s go continent by continent. Continents are alphabetical. Countries are alphabetical. Beaches are alphabetical inside each country.

Best Nude Beaches For… (Quick Picks)
Not sure where to start? These are the standouts by what you want:
- First-timer, relaxed & legal: Germany's FKK lakes and Baltic beaches, Croatia's naturist resorts (Koversada, Valalta), Spain's Vera Playa, or Florida's Haulover Beach.
- Iconic bucket-list: Cap d'Agde (France), Wreck Beach (Vancouver), Red Beach (Crete), Maslin Beach (Australia), Tambaba (Brazil).
- Remote & wild: Guvano (Cinque Terre), Praia da Ursa (Portugal), Sandy Bay (Cape Town), the dune beaches of southern France.
- Adult / lifestyle vibe (18+): Cap d'Agde, parts of Massarandupió (Brazil), and adults-only resorts in Jamaica and Mexico — consent and respect still mandatory.
- LGBTQ+-friendly: Elia & Super Paradise (Mykonos), Hanlan's Point (Toronto), Lido di Dante (Ravenna), Black's Beach (San Diego).
- City-adjacent (easy day trip): Haulover (Miami), Lady Bay (Sydney), Hanlan's Point (Toronto), Serebryany Bor (Moscow).
Is It Legal? Quick Country Notes
Naturism's legality and tolerance vary a lot by country. The fast version:
- Very relaxed / mainstream FKK: Germany, France, Croatia, Spain, the Netherlands, Scandinavia — legal naturist zones are normal and well-signed.
- Legal in designated spots: USA, Canada, Australia, Brazil, Argentina — official or clothing-optional beaches exist, but stay inside the marked area.
- Tolerated but unofficial: much of Asia, Africa and the Caribbean — nudity happens in remote coves but isn't legally protected, so be discreet and low-profile.
- Strict — be very careful: conservative countries where public nudity is illegal (e.g. parts of Asia and the Middle East). When in doubt, don't, and always obey local signs and officials.
The golden rule everywhere: if you see a sign, follow it; if you're not sure, ask or keep a towel on. Respect is what keeps these beaches open.
How to get started if you’ve never been nude in public
- Choose the vibe you want
– Total relaxation, mixed ages, “nude is normal”: go Germany (FKK lakes), Croatia (naturist resorts), Spain (Vera Playa), Canada (Wreck Beach), or Florida (Haulover).
– Sunset drums and hippie energy: Little Beach in Maui, Kehena in Hawaii, Black’s Beach in San Diego, Wreck Beach in Vancouver.
– Erotic / swinger / adult lifestyle: Cap d’Agde (France), some Brazilian beaches with a swinger reputation, certain Jamaica/Mexico resorts, and Two Creeks Campground in Minnesota (USA). - Arrive calm, not thirsty
People can feel desperation from 50 meters away. Nude beaches run on comfort, not hunting. Be relaxed and social, not on the prowl. - Undress at your pace
“Clothing optional” literally means you can take it slow. Topless first, then bottoms later if you feel safe. - Always respect consent
Talking is fine. Touching is not fine unless it’s with someone who is clearly and enthusiastically into you. Public aggressive behavior is how beaches get shut down. - Save this guide
You now have 194 nude, FKK and clothing-optional locations worldwide, plus the interactive map at the top — tap any pin and go.
Final thought
Naturism is freedom. For some people, it’s purely sun and salt water on bare skin. For others, it’s confidence, healing body shame, or exploring sexuality in a space where adults are honest and open. Whether you want calm family-style FKK or high-voltage swinger nightlife, this list gives you the places to start that journey.
Naturism is its own world — sun, salt water and body freedom, not a screen. If what you're actually after is online adult entertainment rather than a trip, that's a different thing entirely; our best adult cam sites guide covers that side.
Remember: respect the beach and the people at the beach, and the beach will stay open.
FAQ: Nude Beaches, FKK, and Naturist Travel
What is an FKK beach?
FKK stands for “Freikörperkultur,” which is German for “free body culture.” It’s the European nudist tradition: body-positivity, naturism, and social nudity with zero shame. On an FKK beach, nudity is normal and not automatically sexual. You’ll see couples, solo travelers, older people, families, swingers, everything.
Is it legal to be naked on these beaches?
Most of the beaches in this guide are clothing-optional or fully legal for nudity, but it always depends on local rules. In many places you MUST stay inside the signed “nudist area.” You can’t just get naked anywhere you want. Easiest rule: if you see signs like “FKK,” “nude beach,” “clothing optional,” or everyone around you is nude, you’re fine. If you’re not sure, ask or keep a towel on.
Do I have to get fully naked, or can I keep bikini bottoms on?
You can absolutely keep pieces on. Nobody is going to scream at you for leaving your top or bottoms. “Clothing optional” means optional. A lot of first-timers go topless or just drop the swimsuit once they feel comfortable.
Are nude beaches only for swingers and sex?
No. Most nude beaches are just normal beaches without clothes. You tan, you swim, you relax. BUT there are also legendary places that are extremely sexual and openly adult, like Cap d’Agde in France, where exhibitionism and public hookups are part of the culture. If you’re going to a hardcore swingers environment, you’ll know very fast because you’ll literally see it. If you’re at a quiet naturist beach with families, do not act sexual in public.
Can I go alone as a woman or as a couple? Is it safe?
Most established nudist spots are actually very chill and respectful because regulars protect the vibe. Couples go all the time. Solo women go all the time. The usual common sense still applies: stay around other naturists, not hidden in random bushes with one dude staring. If someone is creepy, move closer to groups or leave. You’re allowed to say “No” and you don’t owe anyone attention just because you’re naked.
Can I take photos or film on a nude beach?
In general: don’t. Taking pictures of naked strangers without asking is a huge violation and can get you yelled at or kicked out. In some places it can even get you in trouble with the police. If you want a selfie or a couple photo, ask first and angle the camera so no one else is in the background.
What’s the most famous nude beach in the world?
There are two monsters everybody talks about:
- Cap d’Agde (France): basically a full nude city with clubs, parties, swingers, and 24/7 adult energy. It’s not just a beach, it’s an entire lifestyle zone.
- Haulover Beach (Miami Beach, Florida, USA): super easy to reach, officially clothing-optional, warm water, and a steady flow of very open-minded people. Both are absolute bucket list stops if you’re into nudism or just curious.
How do I use the interactive nude beach map?
At the top of this guide there’s an interactive map with pins for every nude / clothing-optional / FKK beach in the list. You can zoom, click a pin, and open it directly in Google Maps for GPS navigation. Save it before you travel, and you basically carry the world’s naturist atlas in your phone.
